# City Pricing Research - Wave 19 (2026-08-14) ## Scope This wave reviewed Manila, Makati, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and Subic Bay for a solo adult on an exploratory stay. It treats a private room as the minimum relevant lodging basis. Flights, nightlife, shopping, and long-term local leases are excluded from a normal daily estimate. ## Manila, Philippines - beta candidate ### Current evidence - Budget Your Trip's current Manila page reports a typical traveller daily total of about PHP 6,035 (USD 99), including hotel, food, sightseeing, and local transportation; it separately reports food around PHP 1,756 daily. The source says the figures derive from previous visitor travel expense data. - HikersBay, updated July 24, 2026, gives solo overnight expectations from about PHP 1,400 for a hostel through PHP 7,000 for luxury accommodation. This demonstrates the lodging spread, but a hostel must not be used as the site's private-room baseline. - PANA.PH's 2026 Manila guide flags lower hotel pricing in shoulder months, reinforcing the need for a season-aware lodging range. ### Responsible treatment Use a transparent private-room exploratory range rather than a single flat number. A planner can use Budget Your Trip as one current all-in reference point, but must label it as historical visitor-spend data, not a guaranteed local-expat monthly cost. ### Status **Beta candidate.** Enough evidence exists for a cautious private-room exploratory estimate, with a clear Manila-season and neighborhood disclaimer. ## Makati, Philippines - beta candidate ### Current evidence - Listingal's current Makati guide places a mid-range daily pattern at PHP 2,700-6,400, explicitly describing a private room, budget hotel, or modest condo, meals, mixed walking/MRT/ride-hailing, and activities. Its upper pattern can include nightlife, so the site must not automatically include that component. - Klook's Makati hotel guide was updated July 8, 2026 and identifies specific areas and hotel categories for budget and mid-range solo stays. ### Responsible treatment Makati should be calculated independently from Manila. It is a private-room, business-district option, not a lower-cost generic Manila proxy. Keep nightlife and shopping out of the base daily total; show them as optional extras. ### Status **Beta candidate.** Current city-specific private-room and spending-pattern evidence is adequate for a cautious range. ## Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Philippines - beta candidate ### Current evidence - The Philippines Department of Tourism's BGC page lists a 3-star hotel or high-end Airbnb studio at PHP 3,500-6,000 and food at PHP 1,500-3,000 for a daily BGC stay. Its transport example is a premium chauffeured car/Grab at PHP 2,000, which is not appropriate for a default practical budget. - Listingal's current Taguig guide notes that a solo traveller pays the full private hotel-room cost and that BGC, outer Taguig, dining choices, and ride-hailing use materially change the total. ### Responsible treatment Treat BGC as the premium Metro Manila option. Use the DOT lodging and food data for a transparent high-comfort reference, but replace premium-car transportation with a practical mixed walking/Grab/MRT range in the site's default planner. Do not claim BGC is inexpensive. ### Status **Beta candidate.** Strong official area-specific lodging/food evidence, with transport normalization required. ## Subic Bay, Philippines - beta candidate ### Current evidence - HikersBay, updated June 28, 2026, reports solo Subic Freeport overnight accommodation from about PHP 636 for a hostel to PHP 9,100 luxury, with a budget-travel total shown at USD 52. - Traveloka's current Subic listing describes private accommodations around USD 30-50 per night for budget-conscious solo visitors. - 12Go's current Subic stay page gives a private-room example from PHP 1,288 and notes that cheap dorm/hostel choices are limited. - A May 2026 solo traveller report gives a real ocean-view room example of around PHP 3,000 and notes local transport is mainly taxis/private cars rather than Grab. ### Responsible treatment Subic needs a distinct solo-traveller transport buffer because ride-hailing is limited and beach/resort activities can raise a single day's spending sharply. The site should show Olongapo/Barrio Barretto as potentially cheaper bases, clearly separated from Freeport/resort pricing. ### Status **Beta candidate.** Current private-room evidence plus local transport context supports a cautious exploratory range. ## Sources - https://www.budgetyourtrip.com/philippines/manila - https://hikersbay.com/travel-cost/philippines/manila?lang=en - https://pana.ph/blog/manila-budget-ph-2026 - https://listingal.com/en/philippines/metro-manila/makati/topic3478 - https://www.klook.com/en-PH/blog/makati-hotels-guide/ - https://philippines.travel/destinations/bonifacio-global-city/index - https://listingal.com/en/philippines/metro-manila/taguig/topic3479 - https://hikersbay.com/travel-cost/philippines/p/subic-bay-freeport-zone?lang=en - https://www.traveloka.com/en-ph/hotel/philippines/city/subic-bay-10008740 - https://12go.asia/en/philippines/subic-bay/stay
